My thought was since we have our big rest period during the day, it would be easy to keep up with the blog (as I have done in the past). Wrong!! We have the most magnificent watering hole along the entire camp which attracts a ton of wildlife for drinks. Every time I sit down to write or look at photos something else comes in to quench its thirst and I immediately grab my camera and go out on my deck or to the big deck in the center of the camp. We are seeing as much wildlife from our tents as we are out on game drives. What a remarkable place.
This morning our tracker started seeing lion urine along the dirt trails and we found the pride of lions from yesterday on the move.
As we were following them, we came across a White Rino and baby. We couldn't get very close so it's not the best shot, but we have seen the South African Big 5 in no time.
I also saw something new this AM. The lions were on the hunt. They spread out in a huge circle to go after prey. Apparently it was a false alarm because after a while they all came back to their resting positions.
Then Oscar and Bret found leopard tracks, but we weren't able to find it. It's so interesting watching these two work together.
We did see group after group of giraffes.
We spotted a couple of very common, but beautiful birds--a Hamerkop and a Yellow-Billed Hornbill.
On our way back to breakfast we came across a small herd of zebra. They are one of my favorites!!
And then--supposed rest time. This is what happened at the watering hole.
Water Buck
Two herds of Zebra
The hole's resident group of 6 hippos.
And sunbathing.
Warthogs
Elephant
Kudu and Impala.
Yay, Thabamati!!!
