We started the day with coffee looking out from our balcony.
Hilary picked us up early and took us to the house of an artist friend, Joni Brenner, who started an amazing project called Marigold. It is a co-operative that makes loomed glass bead necklaces in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The work is stunning.
She then drove us to an African crafts market close to where we are staying.
We then went to lunch at Tasha's Cafe.
I had a salmon tartare that was absolutely delicious!
After lunch we went to a huge yard where artisans were making gigantic metal and stone sculptures.
While driving we admired the striking architecture around our neighborhood.
Hilary drove us all around the city. We also drove through Wits and she took us inside one of the Education buildings that ironically looks likes a prison block.
We ended with a delicious meal at a local steak house.
Hilary did a marvelous job of showing us some of the artist delights of Johannesburg. Outstanding day.
